How interviewers test your communication and preparation right from the start.
Walk me through your PE lining QC career.
I've been a PE lining QC inspector for six years, three in Oman. Specialised into PE-lined steel pipe in oil-and-gas water service. For the past three years I've been PE lining QC inspector at an Omani EPC. My remit: PE lining installation, joint flaring, hydrotest, electrical continuity. Specialism that pays back in projects using this technology.

Behavioural (STAR)
Past-experience questions. Use the STAR framework: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Tell me about a lining defect.
Visual inspection found pinhole in liner. Investigated: handling damage from improper rigging. Repaired per procedure, retested, passed. Coordinated with crew on handling discipline. PE liners are sensitive to damage; handling matters.
Defect handling.
Describe contractor learning.
New contractor crew unfamiliar with PE lining technique. Worked with their supervisor on training: proper insertion, flaring procedure, joint making. Quality improved with training. Specialism requires investment in training.
Training engagement.
Tell me about manufacturer engagement.

Technical & role-specific
Questions that test your specific skills for this role.
Walk me through PE lining installation.
Steel pipe internal surface preparation. Liner insertion per procedure (typically pulled through). Flaring at ends per manufacturer specification. Joint assembly with flange faces. Pressure testing. Electrical continuity testing across the system. Documentation throughout.
Installation depth.
Describe continuity testing.
Liner electrical isolates inside of pipe; continuity test verifies no breaches. Test voltage applied; current monitoring; pass/fail per spec. Failures indicate liner damage requiring investigation. Continuity is the integrity verification.
Continuity depth.
How do you handle hydrotest?
Per code with PE-specific considerations. Pressure profile per design. Hold duration. Records maintained. PE-specific testing follows code with manufacturer technical input.

A test result is borderline. What do you do?
Spec determines acceptance. Engage manufacturer if interpretation uncertain. Don't accept borderline-failing results; long-term integrity matters more than short-term schedule.

Cultural fit & motivation
Why this role, why this company, and how you work with others.
How do you handle specialism in mixed teams?
Most crews have general piping experience plus minimal PE-specific. I bridge with patient training. Specialism rewards investment.

Closing
The final stretch. Often where deals are won or lost.
What are your salary expectations?
For a senior PE lining QC inspector role at an Omani oil-and-gas EPC I'd target OMR 1,300 to 1,800 total package depending on project location. Site allowance should be on top. I'd expect certification renewal. I'm on 30-60 days' notice. Beyond pay I'd value the project quality.
Range preference.
