Walk me through your senior cloud career.
I've been in infrastructure for ten years, five in Oman. Started in on-premises infrastructure, transitioned to cloud over time, and for the past four years I've been senior infrastructure cloud specialist at an Omani Tier-1 bank. My remit: cloud strategy, landing zone evolution, FinOps, governance frameworks, lead cloud projects. Stack covers Azure primary plus OCI for Oracle-stack workloads. AZ-305 architect-level plus OCI architect.
Senior scope.

Past-experience questions. Use the STAR framework: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Tell me about a major cloud initiative.
Last year I led the bank's cloud strategy refresh: assessed current state, defined target architecture, sequenced initiatives. Workshop series with executive sponsors and CISO. Approved roadmap covers two years. Implementation underway with first major workload migrated and reference architecture established. Cloud strategy at bank scale needs executive engagement and technical depth equally.
Strategic delivery.
Describe a major decision you led.
The bank debated single-cloud vs multi-cloud strategy. Strong arguments on each side. I led the analysis: cost implications, vendor risk, operational complexity, skill availability. Recommended primary-cloud-with-targeted-secondary; Azure for general workloads, OCI for Oracle-stack. Adopted. Strategy decision held up across subsequent year; the discipline of decision support produces better outcomes than gut-based decisions.
Strategic judgement.
Tell me about working with the CISO.
Cloud adoption raises security and compliance concerns; CISO function is critical partner. I engage early: share initiatives, listen to concerns, design with security as foundation not after-thought. Regular review cadence. Respectful even when we disagree. The CISO's role is risk management; my role is enabling business with appropriate risk. Adversarial relationship serves no one.
CISO partnership.

Technical & role-specific
Questions that test your specific skills for this role.
Walk me through your cloud strategy framework.
Business drivers first: what's the cloud for. Workload assessment: what fits cloud, what doesn't, what fits which cloud. Architecture principles: standardisation, security, cost-awareness, operability. Governance baseline: how decisions get made. Roadmap with sequencing: foundation first, then migration, then optimisation. Investment plan. Risk management. Cloud strategy at scale is multidimensional; one-dimensional strategies (cost-only, security-only) produce dysfunctional outcomes.
Strategic depth.
Describe your FinOps approach.
FinOps team coordination across finance, engineering, leadership. Cost allocation via tagging strictly enforced. Showback to business units (then chargeback as maturity grows). Optimisation systematic: right-sizing, commitment-based discounts, scale-to-zero, architecture review for cost. Forecasting integrated with planning. Cloud cost management isn't engineering alone; it's organisational discipline.
FinOps depth.
How do you handle cloud compliance?
CBO Cybersecurity Framework central to Omani banking. Cloud-specific requirements documented. Compliance as code: policy enforcement automated. Regular assessment against frameworks. Audit support during regulatory reviews. Working with auditors and regulators to articulate how cloud meets requirements. Cloud compliance is achievable but requires deliberate engineering and engagement.
Compliance depth.

Situational
Hypothetical scenarios designed to test your judgement and approach.
A senior business leader wants to fast-track cloud adoption beyond plan. What do you do?
Understand their pressure; sometimes it's genuine, sometimes it's seeing peers' cloud announcements without underlying analysis. Articulate the plan's pacing and rationale. Identify whether genuine acceleration is possible without disproportionate risk. Sometimes yes (parallel workstreams, more investment), sometimes no (foundation needs time). Decision goes to leadership with full information. Speed plus discipline is achievable; speed without discipline produces failures.
Stakeholder management.

Cultural fit & motivation
Why this role, why this company, and how you work with others.
How do you work across the organisation?
Cloud touches everything: technology, security, finance, business, regulatory. I build relationships across functions. I respect their priorities. I'm direct without being aggressive. I'm the institutional voice for the cloud platform; consistency matters. Cross-functional credibility is built slowly through reliable behaviour.
Cross-functional maturity.

The final stretch. Often where deals are won or lost.
What are your salary expectations?
For a senior cloud infrastructure specialist role at an Omani Tier-1 bank I'd target OMR 3,000 to 4,000 total package depending on strategic responsibility and team size. Strategic-architect-level roles pay a premium. I'd expect annual bonus and certification budget. I'm on 90 days' notice. Beyond pay I'd value the bank's strategic commitment to cloud; banks treating cloud as strategic vs reactive produce different careers.
Range and commitment preference.
