Opening & warm-up
How interviewers test your communication and preparation right from the start.
Walk me through your project change management career.
I've been in project-level change management for nine years, four in Oman. Started in project management at an Indian SI, specialised into change management on technology projects, and for the past three years I've been project change management manager at an Omani Tier-1 bank's transformation programme. My remit: change management across our project portfolio (15+ concurrent projects), team of three change managers. Prosci plus PMP certifications.

Behavioural (STAR)
Past-experience questions. Use the STAR framework: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Tell me about leading the team.
Three change managers reporting to me, each on different projects. My role: capability development, project allocation, quality assurance, escalation support. Each has development plan. Quality reviewed on outputs. Team has matured significantly. Project CM team management is the work.
Team leadership.
Describe portfolio-level decisions.
Project change demands across the portfolio outstripped our capacity. I had to make hard prioritisation calls: which projects got our full attention, which got lighter support, which had to defer. Negotiated with project sponsors. Capacity-aligned commitments rather than over-promising. Portfolio decisions are project CM manager's responsibility.
Prioritisation work.
Tell me about a project that struggled with adoption.
Project went live but adoption was low. Investigated: project team had underinvested in change management thinking. Engaged senior leadership for reinforcement; deployed additional change management support; rebuilt user training and engagement. Adoption recovered over six months. Change management retrofit is harder than upfront investment.
Recovery work.

Technical & role-specific
Questions that test your specific skills for this role.
Walk me through change management on projects.
Engaged from project initiation, not bolt-on at end. Stakeholder analysis. Change strategy aligned with project plan. Communication and training planned. Sustainment beyond launch. Engagement throughout project lifecycle. Project change management isn't bolted on at the end; integrated from start.
Integration methodology.
Describe change-readiness assessment.
Each major project assessed for change readiness pre-launch: stakeholder commitment, training completion, communication received, support resources ready. Gaps addressed before go-live. Go/no-go decision informed by readiness. Without readiness assessment, projects launch into unprepared environments.
Readiness methodology.
How do you handle metrics?
Per project: adoption metrics (usage, completion, satisfaction). Across portfolio: aggregate change management investment vs project value, project-by-project adoption trends. Reported quarterly to programme leadership. Metrics drive accountability.
Metrics methodology.

Situational
Hypothetical scenarios designed to test your judgement and approach.
A project sponsor wants to skip change management. What do you do?
Direct conversation: articulate the risk of skipping CM, cite portfolio data on adoption rates with vs without CM. If sponsor still insists, escalate to programme governance with documented position. Sometimes programme governance overrules; my job is informing the decision. Maintain credibility for future engagement.
Principled engagement.

Cultural fit & motivation
Why this role, why this company, and how you work with others.
How do you work with project teams?
Project teams initially see change management as overhead. I demonstrate value: better project outcomes when change is properly managed. I'm responsive on their needs. I'm direct on what's required for project success. Partnership over compliance.
Partnership.

Closing
The final stretch. Often where deals are won or lost.
What are your salary expectations?
For a project change management manager role at an Omani Tier-1 bank I'd target OMR 2,400 to 3,200 total package depending on portfolio scope and team size. Roles with strategic transformation responsibility pay more. I'd expect annual bonus and certification budget. I'm on 60-90 days' notice. Beyond pay I'd value the programme's commitment to genuine change management.
Range and commitment preference.
