How interviewers test your communication and preparation right from the start.
Walk me through your Oracle Financials career.
I've been an Oracle Financials consultant for ten years, four in Oman. Started in EBS Financials in India, transitioned to Fusion as it matured, and for the past three years I've been Oracle Financials functional consultant at an Omani enterprise. My remit: GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Cash Management. Both EBS R12.2 and Fusion experience. CA (India) plus Oracle Cloud Financials certifications.

Past-experience questions. Use the STAR framework: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Tell me about a Financials implementation.
Last year I supported the Fusion Financials migration from on-premises EBS: chart of accounts redesign, opening balances migration, configuration of business units and ledgers, reporting setup. Twelve months of work. Migration successful; close cycles maintained throughout. Financial system migration is high-stakes; the books cannot drift.
Implementation delivery.
Describe a finance challenge.
Reconciliation between subledgers and GL was showing recurring differences. Investigation: timing differences plus a configuration issue in subledger accounting. Fixed both; reconciliation clean since. Financial reconciliation issues need root-cause; symptom-only fixes recur.
Reconciliation work.
Tell me about working with finance team.
Finance team has specific audit and control requirements; they speak accounting language. I learn it. I respect their concerns about financial integrity. I'm direct on technical constraints but flexible on solutions. The relationship matters for sustained collaboration.
Finance engagement.

Technical & role-specific
Questions that test your specific skills for this role.
Walk me through GL design.
Chart of accounts designed for reporting needs and business structure. Ledgers per legal entity per currency. Calendar configured. Subledger accounting rules for consistent posting from operations. Allocations for cost distribution. Consolidation for group reporting where applicable. GL design is foundational; changing it after years of transactions is painful.
GL depth.
Describe your AP configuration.
Supplier setup with proper categorisation. Invoice types and approval workflows. Three-way match configured with tolerances. Payment terms and methods. Bank account setup. Payment process configured for batch processing. Withholding tax where applicable (corporate tax now in Oman). Reconciliation procedures. AP discipline determines cash flow management.
AP depth.
How do you handle reporting?
Financial Reporting Studio for financial statements (balance sheet, P&L, cash flow). Smart View for Excel-based analysis. OTBI for ad-hoc operational reporting. BI Publisher for formatted output (invoices, payments). Each report type uses appropriate tool. Reporting governance: certified reports vs sandbox.

Situational
Hypothetical scenarios designed to test your judgement and approach.
Finance needs a change that affects audit-relevant configuration. What do you do?
Engage audit / risk function before implementing. Document the change rationale and impact. Test rigorously in non-production. Implement through proper change control. Maintain audit trail. Audit-relevant changes need extra discipline; the cost of finding-induced restatement exceeds the cost of disciplined change.
Audit-aware change.

Cultural fit & motivation
Why this role, why this company, and how you work with others.
How do you work with audit?
Auditors need evidence and controls demonstration. I support: configuration documentation, change control records, segregation of duties matrices, audit-ready test results. I'm responsive to their queries; auditor cooperation makes audit smoother for everyone.
Audit collaboration.

The final stretch. Often where deals are won or lost.
What are your salary expectations?
For a senior Oracle Financials consultant role at an Omani enterprise I'd target OMR 2,000 to 2,600 total package depending on scope and Fusion/Cloud responsibility. Roles with significant transformation responsibility pay more. I'd expect annual bonus and certification budget. I'm on 60 days' notice. Beyond pay I'd value the team's modernisation trajectory.
Range preference.
