How interviewers test your communication and preparation right from the start.
Walk me through your Oracle ERP technical career.
I've been on Oracle ERP for ten years, four in Oman. Started as a junior consultant at an Indian Oracle Partner, progressed through senior technical consultant roles, and for the past three years I've been Oracle ERP technical consultant at an Omani enterprise. My remit: PL/SQL development, custom extensions, integrations, reports, workflows on Oracle EBS R12.2. I work between functional consultants and the technology platform. Oracle certifications in EBS technical track.

Tell me about a complex customisation.
Last year I delivered a custom approval workflow for procurement covering 12 approval scenarios with complex business rules. PL/SQL backend, OAF for the UI customisations, AME for the approval engine. Documented as CEMLI per Oracle's standards for upgrade safety. Three months of development. Live and working for nine months. Oracle ERP customisations succeed when they follow Oracle's standards; shortcuts here create upgrade pain.
Real customisation work.
Describe a production issue.
Concurrent program was running 4+ hours and missing window. Analysed: PL/SQL query patterns causing table scans on grown data. Refactored: proper indexing, query optimisation, parallel execution where applicable. Runtime down to 45 minutes. Oracle ERP performance work needs both Oracle database knowledge and EBS-specific patterns.
EBS performance work.
Tell me about working with functional consultants.
Functional consultants understand business needs; my role is implementing them technically. I respect their domain knowledge; they respect my technical concerns. Joint design reviews catch issues before development. Documentation of design decisions; CEMLI register maintained. The relationship is collaborative; technical-functional friction produces worse outcomes than partnership.
Cross-discipline collaboration.

Technical & role-specific
Questions that test your specific skills for this role.
Walk me through your customisation approach.
CUSTOM_TOP usage per Oracle's standards. Personalisations preferred over forms customisation. Standard tables not modified directly. PL/SQL packages organised. APIs used over direct table access. Documentation maintained: CEMLI register, design notes, deployment instructions. Upgrade-safety considered in every customisation choice. Discipline pays back at upgrade time.
CEMLI discipline.
Describe your reporting approach.
BI Publisher for most reports (replacing older Reports 6i where it was used). Data model templates separated from layout. Performance considered in data model design; ERP data volumes can be large. Standard parameters for filtering. Bursting for distribution. XML output for integration where needed. Reporting performance matters; slow reports affect user productivity daily.
BIP depth.
How do you handle integrations?
Standard Oracle integration patterns: APIs for online, concurrent programs for batch. Interface tables for inbound bulk. XML Gateway for B2B. Web services for service-oriented integration. Error handling rigorous: integration failures need proper handling, not silent loss. Reconciliation procedures for batch integrations. Oracle ERP integration is mature; following standard patterns prevents reinventing wheels.

Situational
Hypothetical scenarios designed to test your judgement and approach.
A production issue needs urgent customisation change. What do you do?
Don't bypass standards even under urgency. Quick fix with proper change management: emergency change ticket, code review by another developer, deployment with rollback ready, post-deployment monitoring. Emergency changes that skip discipline create cascading issues. Speed plus discipline beats speed alone.
Discipline under pressure.

Cultural fit & motivation
Why this role, why this company, and how you work with others.
How do you work with business users?
Business users have specific workflow needs; they speak their business language. I learn it. I demonstrate progress with prototypes rather than just specs. I'm patient with iteration. The relationship matters; business users who trust IT engage constructively.
Business engagement.

What are your salary expectations?
For a senior Oracle ERP technical consultant role at an Omani enterprise I'd target OMR 1,800 to 2,400 total package depending on customisation scope and upgrade leadership. Roles with significant transformation responsibility pay more. I'd expect annual bonus and Oracle certification budget. I'm on 60 days' notice. Beyond pay I'd value the modernisation trajectory; Fusion / Cloud experience matters for future career.
