Walk me through your Oracle EBS Procurement career.
I've been an Oracle EBS Procurement consultant for nine years, four in Oman. Started as a junior at an Indian Oracle Partner, progressed through senior roles, and for the past four years I've been senior procurement functional consultant at an Omani enterprise. My remit: Purchasing, iProcurement, Sourcing modules, plus the related approvals, integrations, reporting. Oracle EBS Purchasing certified plus Sourcing.

Behavioural (STAR)
Past-experience questions. Use the STAR framework: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Tell me about an implementation you led.
Last year I led the iProcurement rollout for 800+ requisitioners across the enterprise: configuration, integration with our supplier master, custom approval workflows, user training. Six months of work. Outcome: requisition cycle time reduced from days to hours, procurement compliance improved through workflow enforcement. iProcurement done well becomes invisible infrastructure; done poorly becomes a daily friction.
Real EBS delivery.
Describe a business challenge you solved.
Procurement team was approving everything centrally; bottleneck during volume periods. I led the redesign: AME-based approval routing per category, value, and business unit. Decentralised low-value routine approvals; centralised strategic. Approval cycle time halved. Functional consulting value is reshaping business processes through ERP capability, not just implementing what's requested.
Business process design.
Tell me about working with sourcing teams.
Sourcing team had complex evaluation requirements for RFx events; standard Sourcing module satisfied 80%, custom evaluation logic needed for 20%. Designed extensions that integrated with standard module without breaking upgrade compatibility. Sourcing team uses the platform productively. The relationship matters; sourcing team that trusts IT engages constructively.
Cross-team work.

Technical & role-specific
Questions that test your specific skills for this role.
Walk me through your AME design.
Approval Management Engine: rules-based approval routing. Conditions per business attribute (value, category, business unit, requisitioner). Approval groups: roles, hierarchies, supervisors. Substitution and escalation. Audit trail per approval. Testing rigorous; AME issues affect every transaction. AME done well makes approvals invisible; done poorly becomes a daily user complaint.
AME depth.
Describe your Purchasing module setup.
Document types per business need. Approval hierarchies. Position controls for organisational structures. Supplier setup with proper categorisation. Sourcing rules for automated supplier assignment. Receiving routing. Three-way match controls. Tax setup. Integration with AP. Procurement configuration is foundational; getting it right at implementation prevents years of workarounds.
Purchasing depth.
How do you handle integrations?
Standard Purchasing APIs for inbound (e.g., from external requisition systems). Outbound interfaces to suppliers (typically PO documents in standard formats). Integration with AP for invoice matching. Integration with Inventory for receiving. Reconciliation procedures essential. Procurement transactions affect financial position; integration rigour matters.
Integration patterns.

Situational
Hypothetical scenarios designed to test your judgement and approach.
Approval workflow has an issue blocking time-sensitive procurements. What do you do?
Investigate immediately. Diagnose: AME rule issue, system performance, user error. Fix the immediate blockage with documented workaround if needed. Permanent fix follows through proper change. Communicate to procurement team. Time-sensitive procurement blockages can affect business operations; structured urgency matters.
Urgent issue handling.

Cultural fit & motivation
Why this role, why this company, and how you work with others.
How do you work with procurement business?
Procurement is operationally focused; daily transactional pressure. I respect that pressure. I deliver changes that improve their work, not changes that look good in design but create user friction. I'm available for questions and issues. Procurement team that has IT support engages constructively.
Operational sensitivity.

What are your salary expectations?
For a senior Oracle EBS Procurement functional consultant role at an Omani enterprise I'd target OMR 1,800 to 2,400 total package depending on scope and team responsibility. Roles with significant transformation responsibility pay more. I'd expect annual bonus and Oracle certification budget. I'm on 60 days' notice. Beyond pay I'd value the trajectory toward Fusion / Cloud procurement.
