Opening & warm-up
How interviewers test your communication and preparation right from the start.
Walk me through your Informatica governance career.
I've been on Informatica's governance suite for six years, three in Oman. Started in data quality at an Indian SI, expanded to data catalog and governance, and for the past three years I've been Informatica Axon/EDC/IDQ consultant at an Omani Tier-1 bank. My remit: data governance platform, business glossary, data lineage, data quality rules. Informatica certifications across the governance suite.

Behavioural (STAR)
Past-experience questions. Use the STAR framework: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Tell me about a governance project.
Last year I led the data catalog deployment: 200+ data assets cataloged, business glossary populated, lineage mapped across 20+ systems, governance workflows established. Twelve months of work. Outcome: data discoverability dramatically improved, regulatory data sourcing simplified, technical-business communication bridged through common terminology. Data governance tools deliver value when adoption is real.
Real governance delivery.
Describe a data quality initiative.
Customer data quality assessment: identified critical fields with quality issues, designed IDQ rules to measure and improve. Dashboard for ongoing monitoring. Source system fixes for the worst issues. Data quality scores improved measurably. Quality without measurement is theatre; measurement plus action produces results.
Quality methodology.
Tell me about working with data stewards.
Data stewards are subject-matter experts; my role is enabling their work through tools. I learn their domain enough to design useful workflows. I'm responsive on tool issues. The platform serves them; if they don't adopt, the investment is wasted.
Stewardship enablement.

Technical & role-specific
Questions that test your specific skills for this role.
Walk me through governance framework.
Data ownership per domain. Business glossary as canonical terminology. Data catalog as discovery and lineage. Data quality measured against business-relevant rules. Stewardship workflows for issue resolution. Reporting on governance maturity. Framework discipline beats ad hoc data management.
Framework depth.
Describe your IDQ approach.
Rules per critical data attribute. Completeness, validity, consistency, uniqueness, integrity. Profiling to discover quality issues. Rules applied in source-to-target pipelines where possible. Scorecard for visibility. Trends tracked. Quality improvement programmes drive by quality measurement.
IDQ depth.
How do you handle data lineage?
Automated lineage via EDC where supported. Manual lineage maintained for systems EDC can't scan. Lineage maintained for compliance and impact analysis. Visualisation enables stakeholder understanding. Lineage is foundational for regulatory compliance and change management.
Lineage depth.

Situational
Hypothetical scenarios designed to test your judgement and approach.
A team isn't engaging with governance. What do you do?
Engage the team to understand resistance. Sometimes governance feels theoretical and disconnected from their work. Demonstrate value: real benefits the team will see. Adjust process if friction is real. Escalate if leadership engagement is needed. Governance adoption is sales work as much as platform work.
Adoption-driven approach.

Cultural fit & motivation
Why this role, why this company, and how you work with others.
How do you work across the data community?
Data governance touches data engineering, analytics, business, compliance. I build relationships across functions. I'm direct without being aggressive. Common goals identified and communicated. Governance succeeds when it serves stakeholders; bureaucratic governance gets ignored.
Cross-function collaboration.

Closing
The final stretch. Often where deals are won or lost.
What are your salary expectations?
For a senior Informatica governance consultant role at an Omani Tier-1 bank I'd target OMR 2,000 to 2,600 total package depending on platform scope. Governance specialism is in limited supply. I'd expect annual bonus and certification budget. I'm on 60 days' notice. Beyond pay I'd value the data strategy maturity.
Range preference.
