Opening & warm-up
How interviewers test your communication and preparation right from the start.
Walk me through your EDRMS career.
I've been in EDRMS (electronic document and records management) for seven years, three in Oman. Started with general document management, specialised into Laserfiche, and for the past three years I've been EDRMS Laserfiche functional specialist at an Omani enterprise. My remit: Laserfiche platform stewardship, workflow design, integration, user training. Laserfiche certifications.
EDRMS scope.

Behavioural (STAR)
Past-experience questions. Use the STAR framework: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Tell me about a major implementation.
Last year I led the EDRMS rollout for 1,500 users across the enterprise: configuration, taxonomy design, migration of legacy documents, workflow integration, training. Twelve months of work. Outcome: structured document management, regulatory retention compliance, audit-ready records. EDRMS delivers when implemented thoughtfully; one-size-fits-all rollouts create user friction.
Real implementation.
Describe a regulatory compliance issue.
Audit identified records retention non-compliance: documents being kept too long or deleted too soon. I led remediation: retention policy review against regulatory requirements, retention rules configured in Laserfiche, automated retention disposition. Compliance restored; ongoing process to prevent recurrence. EDRMS supports compliance; without configuration discipline, it doesn't.
Compliance work.
Tell me about working with records managers.
Records management is a profession with specific expertise; I respect their domain. They speak records language; I translate technical. Joint design produces better outcomes. The relationship matters for sustainable governance.
Records partnership.

Technical & role-specific
Questions that test your specific skills for this role.
Walk me through Laserfiche configuration.
Repository design per business need. Folder structure plus metadata for discoverability. Security per role. Retention rules per document class. Workflows for document-driven processes. Integration with line-of-business systems. Configuration discipline pays back; ad hoc rollouts create chaos.
Laserfiche depth.
Describe taxonomy design.
Business-aligned taxonomy: documents organised the way business uses them. Metadata for cross-cutting attributes. Search optimised for typical queries. User testing of taxonomy with target users. Taxonomy is the foundation of findability; bad taxonomy means good documents users can't find.
Taxonomy depth.
How do you handle workflows?
Laserfiche Workflow for document-driven processes. Activities per business need. Routing rules. Notification design. Approval steps. Integration with email and other systems. Performance considered for high-volume flows. Workflows are engineering applied to document flows.
Workflow depth.

Situational
Hypothetical scenarios designed to test your judgement and approach.
A user requests a quick-and-dirty exemption from retention rules. What do you do?
Don't bypass policy. Engage records manager on the request; sometimes legitimate exemptions exist per process. Document the decision. Apply consistently. Exemptions casually granted erode the records framework.
Policy discipline.

Cultural fit & motivation
Why this role, why this company, and how you work with others.
How do you handle user adoption?
EDRMS changes work patterns; adoption requires investment. Training designed for actual use. Champions in each department. Sustained support through transition. Adoption measured; gaps addressed. Without sustained engagement, users default to old patterns and EDRMS becomes shelfware.
Adoption focus.

Closing
The final stretch. Often where deals are won or lost.
What are your salary expectations?
For a senior Laserfiche functional specialist role at an Omani enterprise I'd target OMR 1,400 to 1,800 total package depending on scope and team responsibility. Roles with significant transformation responsibility pay more. I'd value Laserfiche certification budget. I'm on 30-60 days' notice. Beyond pay I'd value the records management strategy.
Range preference.
