Walk me through your data governance career.
I've been in data governance for nine years, four in Oman. Started in data management consultancy, specialised into governance and data catalog work, and for the past four years I've been Axon data governance senior consultant at an Omani Tier-1 bank. My remit: data governance programme leadership, Axon platform stewardship, business glossary, governance maturity. Multiple Informatica certifications plus DAMA CDMP.

Tell me about a governance programme.
Two years ago I led the data governance programme for the bank: governance framework definition, Axon platform deployment, business glossary population, stewardship community establishment, regulatory data management. Eighteen months of programme work. Outcome: governance maturity moved from initial to managed level per DAMA framework. Programmes succeed on persistent leadership, not one-off projects.
Programme leadership.
Describe a regulatory engagement.
CBO required formal data governance maturity assessment. I led the response: documentation of governance framework, evidence of operating practices, gap analysis, improvement plan. Positive engagement with CBO; recognised maturity progression. Regulator engagement on governance matters; mature engagement produces collaborative outcomes.
Regulator engagement.
Tell me about building stewardship community.
Stewardship was nascent. I led community building: identified data owners per domain, defined steward roles, training programme, regular community meetings, recognition for steward contributions. Community now sustains itself; governance survives leadership transitions because community owns it.
Community building.

Technical & role-specific
Questions that test your specific skills for this role.
Walk me through Axon usage.
Business glossary as canonical terminology. Data domains and stewardship assignment. Workflows for issue resolution. Integration with EDC for lineage visibility. Reporting on governance metrics. Adoption tracked; gaps addressed through engagement, not just exhortation.
Axon depth.
Describe DAMA-based governance.
DAMA-DMBOK as the framework. Functions covered: governance, architecture, modeling, storage, security, integration, document/content, reference and master data, warehousing/BI, metadata, data quality. Maturity per function assessed. Investment prioritised by gap and value. DAMA provides structured perspective; ad hoc governance lacks coherence.
Framework depth.
How do you measure governance maturity?
Maturity model per governance function. Multi-level scale (initial, managed, defined, measured, optimised). Annual assessment with stakeholder input. Trends tracked. Investment plans tied to maturity advancement. Maturity assessment is honest evaluation, not advocacy; consultant integrity matters.
Maturity methodology.

Situational
Hypothetical scenarios designed to test your judgement and approach.
Senior executive challenges the governance framework. What do you do?
Listen carefully; their concern may reveal real framework issues. Articulate the framework's rationale clearly. Be open to evolution if the challenge is legitimate. Engage with respect; senior leadership engagement is essential for governance to mature.
Executive engagement.

Cultural fit & motivation
Why this role, why this company, and how you work with others.
How do you handle resistance?
Governance creates accountability some find uncomfortable. I lead with value: governance serves stakeholders' real needs (regulatory, operational, strategic). I'm patient with adoption; resistance often reflects unclear value proposition. Persistence matters; governance maturity takes years.
Patient leadership.

The final stretch. Often where deals are won or lost.
What are your salary expectations?
For an Axon senior consultant role at an Omani Tier-1 bank I'd target OMR 2,400 to 3,200 total package depending on programme scope. Governance specialism with regulatory engagement commands a premium. I'd expect annual bonus and certification budget. I'm on 60-90 days' notice. Beyond pay I'd value the strategic positioning of data governance.
Range and positioning preference.
