Job Description

 

Employment: Full Time

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced HDD Mud Engineer to join their project team in Uganda. As the HDD Mud Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful drilling process by designing and managing the drilling fluid to meet operational specifications. Your expertise in mixing, testing, and controlling mud will be valued within the project.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Report to the HDD Project Manager and Construction Manager.
  • Control the technology and supervise mud man’s performance for mud preparation.
  • Monitor key parameters during drilling, including marsh funnel viscosity, pH value, mud density, fluid loss, and filtration. Daily mud performance tests and reports are essential.
  • Oversee the operation of the mud recycling plant and provide necessary training to the mud man.
  • Recommend optimal operating modes for various HDD stages, such as pilot hole, reaming, swabbing, and pipeline pullback.
  • Ensure compliance with work plans, local laws, and regulations for biopolymer fluid parameters.
  • Develop a mud management plan and prepare a mud frac-out disposal plan as a contingency.
  • Recommend optimal waste mud collection and reconditioning for reuse.
  • Ensure compliance with labour discipline, technological protocols, and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with HDD engineers and technicians to ensure a cost-effective and safe drilling process.
  • Calculate the required amount of mud at different stages of drilling (pilot hole, reaming, and pullback).
  • Provide professional guidance in selecting drill bits and roller cones.

Requirements

Education, Skills, and Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, petroleum engineering, or relevant fields.
  • Abundant experience in HDD mud management is required.
  • Expert knowledge of mud systems, mud, and drilling tools.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to create detailed mud logs and manage drilling contaminants, additives, and mud treatment.
  • Proficient understanding of waste management and technical knowledge in mathematics, physics, geology, and chemistry.
  • Excellent interpretational and cooperation skills with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid borehole control certification, completion of a training course from mud school, and certification acquisition are preferred.
  • Language: English (Required).
