Job Description

As a NICU Nurse, you will provide specialized nursing care to critically ill newborns and premature infants. Your expertise in neonatal care, monitoring, and treatment will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of these vulnerable patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to newborns in the NICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and managing interventions as per established protocols.
  • Assess the physical and developmental needs of premature infants and critically ill newborns, and collaborate with the healthcare team to develop individualized care plans.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment, such as incubators, ventilators, and cardiac monitors, ensuring accurate and reliable readings.
  • Perform procedures specific to neonatal care, such as umbilical line insertions, endotracheal intubations, and nasogastric tube placements.
  • Support and educate parents on the care and developmental needs of their newborns, including breastfeeding support and guidance.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, and social workers, to provide comprehensive care and ensure the best possible outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Monitor and manage infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections within the NICU.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in neonatal nursing practices and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the unit.
  • Provide emotional support to families during their NICU stay and facilitate parent-infant bonding.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license and completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • Specialization or certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (NNP or NNP-BC) preferred.
  • Proven experience in a NICU or similar neonatal care setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of neonatal assessment, care planning, and intervention techniques.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting specialized NICU equipment.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills in managing complex neonatal cases.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare teams and provide support to families.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining a calm and composed demeanor.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols and procedures.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred.
