The Planning Lead ensures the Project Control functions (cost control, planning/scheduling and progress, risk management, management of change and reporting thereof) are established by the contract and internal requirements for the projects.
The Planning Lead is responsible for overseeing the planning and monitoring of projects to ensure that they are done on time, within budget and meet the Employer’s requirements.
The Planning Lead advises the Project Manager of possible cost & schedule issues and implements the necessary recovery plans.
- Provide project control input on the commercial, programme, administrative and reporting requirements during project setup.
- Provide support in the development of and maintain the project controls plan and associated procedures.
- Provide support in implementing and maintaining the project schedule, including resource loading, cost loading, critical path analysis and progress monitoring.
- Monitor project progress, analyzing deviations from the plan, and providing regular performance reports to project stakeholders. This includes tracking actual versus planned progress, identifying deviations, and proposing corrective actions.
- Coordinating the allocation of resources with the Project Manager, including staff, labour, equipment, and materials, to ensure project needs are met.
- Tracking resource utilization and making adjustments as necessary.
- Provide support in the management of project budgets, track costs, and oversee the preparation of
financial forecasts. - Monitoring project costs with the Project Manager and providing reports when needed on budget status.
- Conducts detailed review and analysis of project performance control and reporting and ensures
management is provided with a timely review of the progress of all projects including the completion of monthly project status reports and forecasting - Track the project’s performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Review and discuss material waste reports with the Project Team.
- Review and endorse proposed corrective actions to maintain the project within the planned cost and
schedule - Provide support to project teams regarding change management, including subcontractor claims, change requests, claims and dispute resolution
- Ensure accurate and timely project reporting to stakeholders, including progress updates, cost reports, and risk registers
- Liaise with clients and other stakeholders to manage expectations and ensure alignment with project goals
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and procedures
- Attend Project progress/commercial meetings, both internal and external.
- Undertake any other duties which may reasonably be within the capability and expertise of a Planning Lead.
- Communicates with external and internal stakeholders, vendors and subcontractors as required.
- At least 15 years of experience in project control with a track record of successful project delivery,
preferably in infrastructure projects. - Strong understanding of project management principles, practices, and tools, including scheduling, cost control, risk management, and reporting.
- Proficient in project management software and tools, including Primavera P6.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field
